Mr. Eddy R. A. Burello

Eddy R. A. Burello, FCPA, FCA, MBA, is a Business Advisor and Partner with MNP in Toronto. Drawing on 31 years of experience in public accounting, Eddy works with private company entrepreneurs in the areas of corporate and personal tax. Eddy has a broad range of experience advising private companies and their shareholders on a variety of domestic and international tax issues. He has advised on acquisition / divestiture strategies, cross-border expansion strategies, alternative financing arrangements, executive compensation arrangements and maximizing shareholder wealth.

Eddy specializes in advising privately held companies within the real estate sector, which includes many professional consulting engineering organizations. Eddy holds a Master of Business Administration degree from York University. He is a designated Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA), qualifying as a Chartered Accountant (CA) and ranked fourth in Ontario for his marks. Actively engaged in the community, Eddy sits on a number of not-for-profit boards and advisory groups and is a frequent speaker at industry events. He has been the coordinator for CPA Canada’s In-Depth Tax Course since 2007. He is a frequent speaker on taxation and related matters that impact private enterprises. Eddy has appeared on BNN addressing tax matters and presented a proposal before the House of Commons Standing Committee on Finance regarding the Liberal Party’s 2017 Tax Reform policy.

Mr. Spencer Gray

Spencer has founded several successful businesses in the fields of real estate (SB Real Estate Investments, Gray Properties, LLC) and agricultural commodities (Sugar Creek Hops), before turning his passion for investing in commercial real estate into what is now Gray Capital, LLC. Mr. Rick Iafelice

Rick Iafelice has over 30 years of real estate experience in brokerage, land development, construction and operations. Rick has a long track record of successful partnerships with groups including First Capital Realty, Greystone, Caregard, Petro Canada, and Metro. Prior to forming Main + Main Rick successfully developed several properties, including retirement homes, apartment complexes, shopping centres, and heritage restoration projects. Rick has specialized in land developments throughout Ottawa and Toronto.

Mr. Daniel Byrne

Daniel Byrne began his real estate career with CMHC in the 1990s. He entered development after 7 years working as a management consultant focused on real estate. He has directly managed the successful entitlement of over 1.4m square feet of mixed-use development and has in depth experience in the design and construction of multi-family projects.

Mr. Jason Levin

Jason Levin is Executive Vice President, Investments at Osmington Inc. a private real estate investment and development company owned by David Thomson, chairman of Thomson Reuters. Jason is responsible for a team of investment professionals that source and execute equity and debt investments in real estate, private equity and venture.  In addition, Jason is a member of the board of a number investee companies on behalf of Osmington.  Prior to his current position, Jason worked as a Vice President at Empire Communities, a Toronto based residential real estate developer. Jason’s responsibilities included acquisitions and sourcing all of the capital requirements for this growing business. Jason’s real estate career began at Canadian Mortgage Capital Corporation, a Toronto based, non-bank real estate lender. In his 7 years with the company Jason structured and closed over $1 billion in private and institutional debt. Jason holds a Master of Business Administration degree from The Schulich School of Business at York University. Born in South Africa, Jason now lives in Toronto with his wife and three children.

Ms. Shenoor Jadavji

Founder of Lotus Capital, Shenoor is responsible for the strategic direction of the firm including capital sourcing and structuring value aligned joint venture investments. She brings 25 years of experience in real estate transactions totaling more than $2 billion across all real estate classes in major and secondary Canadian markets, as well as select US markets.

Outside of her leadership role at Lotus Capital, Shenoor is an active and committed member of the community, and has served on numerous Boards. She is currently serving on the Multi-Generational Housing Advisory Board for the Ismaili Community which delivers affordable housing rental and owning options. She also spearheads an advisory committee for the Aga Khan University focused on developing income producing properties on AKU lands in Sub-Saharan Africa and Pakistan.

Mr. Gurion De Zwirek

Mr. Gurion De Zwirek is the Managing Director of Serruya Private Equity (Yogen Früz® family).

In 1986, two young brothers opened a revolutionary frozen yogurt retail concept in Toronto, Canada. It was a modest effort: a small store with an extraordinary product and a great design. A new concept was developed that provided consumers a healthy experience unlike any they had tasted before. It was a huge success, and a strong following pursued. Today, Yogen Früz® is a world leader in the frozen snacks category, with over 1,400 locations operating in over 47 countries around the world.

Gurion joined SPE in 2015 and is currently responsible for managing the investment and asset management operations of the firm. Since joining, Gurion has stepped into various interim management positions for different portfolio companies. Prior to joining SPE, Gurion served as a naval officer for 7 years.

Gurion holds a BA in Business Administration and Political Science from the University of Haifa and a Masters degree in Global Economics and International Business from the Munk School of Global Affairs at the University of Toronto.

Ms. Diana Potapenko

Diana Potapenko spent over a decade with Macquarie Group in Toronto, London and New York as Vice President in leadership roles across portfolio and risk management, asset acquisitions and business integrations within Macquarie Capital and Macquarie Asset & Finance. She joined the family business specializing in laser technologies and real estate, and is now managing new real estate development in Eastern Europe and Central Asia. Diana’s parallel initiatives include a new venture in bentonite mining and business consulting for startups.

Mr. Hugh G. Hilton

Hugh Hilton is a Founding Partner of A&M CapRE. He is a member of the firm’s Board and sits on its Investment Committee.  As an A&M veteran with a rare combination of corporate turnaround and restructuring, commercial real estate restructuring, and private equity real estate investment and asset management experiences, Mr. Hilton brings a unique perspective to the firm.

Prior to joining A&M in 1992, Mr. Hilton enjoyed a 15+ year career in real estate working primarily in a principal capacity on behalf of public and private U.S.-based pension funds and international investors. During this period, Mr. Hilton served in a number of senior executive roles, including:  CEO of Trinity Pacific Real Estate Services; President of Karsten Institutional Realty Advisors (a subsidiary of First Interstate Bancorp); and Senior Vice President of Acquisitions for BankAmerica Investment Real Estate.  Hilton began his real estate career in Associate positions at Jones, Lang, Wooton (now JLL) and Coopers and Lybrand National Real Estate Group (now part of PWC).

In total, Mr. Hilton has worked as a principal or in a key advisory role on over 50 real estate transactions with an aggregate value in excess of $5.5 billion;

Hilton has been involved with office, medical office, industrial, retail, multi-family, hospitality, gaming, mixed-use, master-planned communities and golf courses, including single assets and portfolios of assets, in various stages of completion, sell-through, or lease-up.

Since joining A&M in 1992, Mr. Hilton has been involved in 28 corporate restructuring, turnaround and performance engagements at a wide variety of public and private middle-market companies — both in and out-of court — on behalf of debtor, creditor and private equity clients. Twelve of those engagements required Mr. Hilton to fill interim senior management roles, including Chairman, CEO, President, and/or Chief Restructuring Officer.  Hilton’s corporate restructuring experience spans real estate, hospitality, entertainment, gaming, mass merchandising and specialty retail, healthcare, manufacturing, and technology industry sectors.  Selected restructuring engagements involving significant real estate components include:

Chief Restructuring Officer for a $3.4 billion portfolio of multi-family, low-income housing communities;

Chief Restructuring Officer on the $1.4 billion restructuring of a major Las Vegas resort and casino;

Director of Real Estate for a 300+ store chain of discount drugstores;

CEO of a national restaurant holding company with over 160 units;

Interim CEO of a 2000+ room hotel and casino in Reno, Nevada;

CEO of Affiliated Medical Enterprises, an acute care hospital chain; and

Real Estate Director for southwest based hospital chain.

Hilton received a BBA in business administration (with high distinction; James B. Angell Scholar) and an MBA (with distinction, Beta Gamma Sigma) – both from the University of Michigan. He holds a Juris Doctor from the University of Colorado, with a concentration in real property law.  He is a member of the American Bankruptcy Institute (ABI), Counselors of Real Estate (CRE) and the Colorado Bar Association.
